About

Carnew Community Care grew out of a desire by the local community to provide for the older people living in the locality.  Spearheaded by the local community and the Daughters of Charity, the success of Carnew Community Care owes much to successive hard-working volunteer committees and, in particular , to Sr. Clare Stakelum, who served here from 1984 until 2007.

Carnew Community Village comprises 28 housing units and a Day Centre which provides services  to over 150 older people in our Community Village, Carnew town and surrounding area. Our organisation provides day service meals and motivational activities, it also supports the delivery of nursing , chiropody, laundry & hairdressing services. Our ethos of creating a supported physical and social environment enables people to live a good quality of life in their own homes .  A HSE Public Health Nurse based at our centre takes care of the nursing needs of  residents and provides services to others attending the  Day Centre service such as baths, minor dressings and organising  health care appointments for patients. Our kitchen, administration, health care & volunteer teams co-ordinate  the smooth running of social activities and services such as bingo, cards, arts, and crafts.  Daily dinners and weekly afternoon tea sessions provide much needed social interaction.

In addition to our in house services we provide approximately 40 meals on wheels five days a week to people in the surrounding areas.

Housing

Houses are allocated to applicants on the basis of needs: social, material or financial. All applications are carefully considered by the committee, with moderate rents charged for single and double houses.

Funding

Carnew Community Care CLG receives core funding  supports from the Health Service Executive and the Department of Social Protection.   Funds from these bodies enable the organisation to staff the services and activities provided.

Fundraising activities organised by volunteers and persons interested in the maintenance and development of the centre enable the centre to fund overheads, activities and maintenance.   Our onsite Charity Shop and main street “Pop Up Shop” raise much needed funds.   The success of the shops is due to continued generous donations from local people and our Community Care Volunteers who give so willingly and generously of their time.
